What's different about Nevada for the self-employed
- Nevada has no personal income tax. The Commerce Tax applies to sole proprietors only above $4 million of Nevada gross revenue.
- Sole proprietors and LLCs need a state business license.
- Every LLC must also hold a State Business License, costing $200 to obtain and $200 to renew each year with the annual list, so an LLC's minimum yearly state cost is $350 ($150 list + $200 license) even with no profit.
- Nevada's Commerce Tax applies only to businesses whose Nevada gross revenue exceeds $4,000,000 in a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30).
- Nevada does not impose a state income tax on individuals, so there are no state estimated payments or individual return.
LLC fees and sales tax in Nevada
- Forming an LLC: $75 state filing fee.
- Annual List: $150, every year, due by the end of your anniversary month.
- Sales tax: 6.85% statewide, plus local rates in many cities and counties. Use the Sales Tax Calculator to price a sale.
A single-member LLC is taxed exactly like a sole proprietorship unless it elects S or C corporation status, so the self-employment tax figures on this page apply either way.
